While making QuickBooks Desktop Payroll E-Pay or E-File submission, you receive one of the following messages:

        1. QuickBooks Desktop encountered a network problem while processing your payment or form. The underlying connection was closed. Unable to connect to the remote server.

        1. QuickBooks Desktop encountered a network problem while processing your payment or form. The remote name could not be resolved: ‘efeprodqb.intuit.com’. Solution: Try to submit again.

        1. An internal error has occurred.

These errors can be caused by a connection problem or by the token values assigned to your E-File (or E-Pay) submissions being out of sync.

Check Microsoft TLS version

TLS 1.2 is an internet protocol security which is quickly becoming an industry security standard. In order to provide greater security and stability, all connections used by QuickBooks Desktop to access Intuit services need to meet certain requirements. If these requirements are not met, payroll services such as E-file/Pay will be impacted or you may not be able to process E-pay. Refer to Operating System, Internet Explorer, and .Net framework requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2016 and later to understand more on how to update your system to TLS 1.2 and you can also manually update the setting for the same.

Note: If it goes through successfully, it means a program outside of QuickBooks Desktop was causing the issue. You can turn off services/startup items one by one to determine what program is interfering with QuickBooks Desktop.

    • Login as QuickBooks Administrator.

    • Start the computer in Selective Startup:

    • Send e-payment.

    • Restart the computer.

    • Send e-payment.
