How to Fix QuickBooks Payroll Update Error PS033

I am not able to use the Payroll service and when I tried to update it, nothing works, it shows a message with error code PS033. How can I resolve it?

QuickBooks error PS033 is related to QuickBooks payroll errors. This error does not allow you to download the payroll updates released by Intuit. Intuit release updates from time to time so that the software can work efficiently and effectively. But what happen when we try to download updates it gives an error like PS033. It is one of the most common errors faced by many of user’s. Error PS033 means that it cannot Read your Payroll installation setup files while updating. There is a lot of reason why it cannot read your setup file because your security or your firewall it might be locking the connection. So, in today’s blog we are going to discuss what this error is all about and why it occurs and how to fix error PS033. Sometimes it also creates problems when we are calculating taxes performing employee payroll. If your payroll is not updated that it will give you this error PS033.

Step 1: Download the Payroll updates

  1. To download the payroll update you need to Go to Help from the top.
  2. Once you see the drop-down list and select Get Payroll update.
  3. It will give you the new window to update QuickBooks so, here you need to click on update.
  4. It will take some time so you need to wait till it’s complete and then click ok.

Step 2: Update entire QuickBooks Payroll

  1. To download the entire payroll, you need to go to employees from the top.
  2. Once you see the drop-down list Click on Get Payroll Update.
  3. Once you see the new window click on reset then click on update.
  4. Wait until it is complete then click on Ok.

Step 3: Renaming CPS Folder

  1. To Rename the CPS Folder you need to Go to C:\Program Files\Intuit\QiuickBooks20nn\Payroll
  2. Here you need to select the CPS s and the click on rename and replace it by using .old.

Step 4: Disabling User Accounts Permissions

Disabling the user Account security can help us to fix QuickBooks error PS033 because what happens due to the user permissions QuickBooks payroll cannot Install update. So, to fix this issue a computer user should be logged in as Administrator User and the second is Disable the User Account Permission.

  1. To Disable the user account control, you need to Go to the Control Panel.
  2. In the control panel window, you need to select the User Account.
  3. Then you need to click on Change User Account Control Setting.
  4. Once you click on it, you will see a small window with a small Tab bar. So, you need to Drag and drop that small Tab bar to the bottom.
  5. Then hit Ok.
  6. Then finally click on Yes.
  7. And finally, Restart the computer.

Step 5: Reboot the QuickBooks

  1. To reboot the software, you need to go to the installation directories of the software.
  2. For me its C:\Program Files\Intuit\ QuickBooks for you its depends on your Installation.
  3. Once you see the bat file double click on it. This will restart the software.
  4. Now you can start using your QuickBooks.
