Unable to open the Quickbooks company file on second computer

Our Quickbooks is working fine on the primary computer but when we try to open the same file on another computer it does not work

It appears that you are using Multi-User Hosting, behind this problem there can be multiple reasons as mentioned below:

  • The multi-user configuration settings are wrong
  • The firewall ports are not configured
  • The Database Manager is not working correctly
  • Antivirus application is blocking the connection

First, you should check if the multi-users settings are configured correctly on the main computer where the file is located, you would need to check if the folder that contains the company file has the security permissions setup correctly and the folder is shared over the LAN Network.

Then you would need to ensure that the ports 8019, 56728, 55378-55382 are allowed in your Windows Firewall Settings, make sure the ports are allowed for both Inbound and Outbound connection.

QuickBooks Database Server Manager is the application that ensures that the company files are shared over the network correctly, so you need to check if the correct folder is added to it and also ensure its service is running.

The Antivirus application should have rules configured to allow QuickBooks to access the network so that other computers can open the files.
