There are many scenarios when you say QuickBooks is freezing up, it depends on which window you are or what you are doing in QuickBooks:

Sometimes you try to open QuickBooks from the icon on desktop and it won’t open and you might think it is freezing up but actually it could be running in background or collecting License information and could be the security software is blocking or Quarantined the QBregistration.bat having License information. (In case you are not aware about the License information you can read Where to find the lost QuickBooks License Information?)

Force Close QuickBooks via Task Manager

Most of the time another instance of QuickBooks is running in the back ground and need to end the task from Task Manager. Steps to end task is below:

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+Delete and select Task Manager OR go to the Task bar and Right click to select Task Manager.
  2. Go to Processes Tab press ‘Q’ from keyboard and select the task related to QuickBooks and click on End Task.

Sometimes QuickBooks is already open and the whole window is restored you need to click on Maximize button to see the whole window.

Updating QuickBooks to latest release

QuickBooks freezes if the software release is not latest, you should check the latest release with the help of steps below:

  1. In QuickBooks click on Help menu and go to Update QuickBooks.
  2. On Update QuickBooks Window click on Get Update.
  3. After this QuickBooks will indicate Update Complete, however in some scenarios QuickBooks asks you to update on the next start and asks you to Restart QuickBooks.
  4. In the above scenario QuickBooks will show the prompt to install update.
  5. Here you need to click on Install Now to get the QuickBooks Updated to the latest release.

Using QB Install Tool to resolve the issue

QuickBooks might be freezing up because a Windows component is missing or needs an upgrade, As QuickBooks runs on Windows so this could be one of the reasons for freezing up.

Windows component update can be easily fixed by QuickBooks Install Diagnostics Tool.

QuickBooks Install Diagnostics tool can be downloaded with the link below:
