I am from Texas and run a construction business, it’s been more than 7 years I have been using QuickBooks, it is difficult to remember multiple passwords, that too when you have to re-create it after a certain period of time, earlier QuickBooks did not have a requirement of having a password for the files however in recent times they have made the security advancements that forces us to setup a password even when you are not willing to have one. Forgetting a password can be frustrating however I keep my software covered by subscribing to QuickBooks Technical Support through ProAdvisor firms and trust me they are really helpful and can save your time by providing instant support for such problems.

Considering the security updates QuickBooks has implemented, it is really required to have a QuickBooks Company File password to setup anything, especially when we have multiple employees working for us, it allows us to ensure that nobody has access to QuickBooks other than the ones required. Now, it really depends on how many users in total we have in our Company File, probably the Administrator account allows us to recreate the password for the users. However, if we end up forgetting the Administrator password, then it becomes difficult to access QuickBooks. We then have to call for help.

It might be easy to change your password if you have forgotten however you must have a security question setup. In case you do not have a security question setup or you forgot the answer, it may be a challenging task to reset it, I had the same problem and had to contact a technician who helped me resolve it.
