Why are my memorized reports getting corrupt? When I try to make a new one, it pulls a different report?

This has been happening for the last couple of months. I thought it might be a virus, and scanned my computer, and do so every morning before I even open my QuickBooks. My Norton says everything is good so I’m unable to figure out what the problem is. Do you think there is something wrong with my QuickBooks? Help.

Hi Sandra!

Thanks for posting on our Community Forum.

Your problem sounds pretty annoying, especially if it prevents you from opening a company file. I’m going to try my best to help you get back to work.

Your error when QuickBooks is unable to open memorized reports, probably shows you a notification with this text:

ERROR–Error: Verify Memorized Report List: TotUsed is XX, expected XX Error: Verify Memorized Report list: Display index invalid.

OR

LVL_ERROR–Memorized Report recnum XXX (Name of Report) contains corrupted formatting data. recnum 140 — This memorized report must be deleted.

This usually occurs when your list of memorized reports is damaged. The location that QuickBooks is trying to access could be empty or does not exist.

Try These Solutions:

Solution 1: Identify and resolve damage to basic data files.

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Click on Memorized Reports.
  3. Find the Memorized Reports List, and then click on Re-sort List.
  4. Click on OK.
  5. Then, open the Rebuild Utility Tool.
  6. Use the tool to rebuild and verify any damage done to your data.
  7. Next, use your QBWin.log. This should help you identify any data damage, and rectify it.

Solution 2: Create your Memorized Report Group again.

Make sure you back up your company files before proceeding with this method.

  1. Create a new group in your Memorized Report List.
  2. Next, create many different new memorized reports within the new group, and save them to occupy the damaged slots.
  3. Re-sort this list.
  4. Reopen QuickBooks.

If you still aren’t sure or don’t feel particularly comfortable performing these steps on your own, you can contact QuickBooks Support at +1-855-875-1223. They are IT professionals who will guide you through the process.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
