How to deduct hours from a salaried employee?
I pay our employees monthly and I have to deduct a few hours from his salary. How do I do that?
Hi Marlene,
If you are paying someone a monthly salary, I will recommend using vacation function instead of sick function. First of all, you have to calculate his hourly salary. Especially, if the employee starts his job in the middle of a month or he takes unpaid leave.
You have to turn on Sick and Vacation in QuickBooks before you start making paychecks. You can perform the following steps in order to turn on this feature.
-
- Go to Edit menu and choose Preferences
-
- Select Payroll & Employee
-
- From Payroll & Employee go to Company Preferences
-
- Select Sick and Vacation Button to turn on this feature
-
- Click on Ok
After turning on Sick and Vacation now you can try to run payroll for the employee. The following steps can be followed to reduce the number of hours:
-
- Click on Employee menu
-
- Select Run Payroll
-
- Select schedule or unscheduled payroll
-
- Select the employee from that employee list
-
- And click on Open Paycheck Details…
-
- In Earnings Item list Select Salary
-
- And then enter Vacation Hours rate and make sure hours should be in negative.
-
- Click on Save and Next
-
- Then click on Create paycheck.
Once paycheck will be generated you can click on print paystub in order to print paystub. Hope this article helped you to create a paycheck where you have deducted hourly salary from his/her regular paycheck. For further assistance, call us at.
